Exploratory journeys

Venture deeper into emerging regions of Asia as we journey to destinations more remote than ever before!

In 2011 we launched our new exploratory journeys range with two exciting journeys the 13 day Highlights of Bhutan and 15 day Trans-Mongolian Adventure. These were such a success that in 2012 we have added the 15 day Sri Lanka Discovery to the collection.

Over many years, our travels in Asia have taken us to exciting and fascinating destinations which, despite our longstanding passion, have yet to be included in our signature range of ‘grassroots’ travel experiences - until now…

The allure of these captivating lands is not always found in big-name sites or pulsating cities, but in uncovering the extraordinary cultures and their time-honoured traditions, the warmth of engaging people, as well as natural wonders and breathtaking surrounds.

Perfect for those who enjoy immersing themselves in a country’s culture, in the stories of its past, surprising encounters with its people and the chance to sample weird and wonderful local delicacies! They offer the unique and exciting opportunity to join us in exploring regions where tourism is still in its early days, making for exciting and unforgettable travel experiences which differ from more established destinations.

Not for the faint-hearted, these journeys cover some long distances in far-flung regions where tourism is sometimes in its infancy and modern facilities are scarce. An adventurous spirit, a willingness to be flexible and the sense of humour of a well-seasoned traveller are essential and will be rewarded with truly remarkable experiences most people only dream of. Accommodation is comfortable and often in a local style - but may be more simple than typical Travel Indochina accommodation. Hotels and guest houses all include electricity and most have private facilities, but in some more remote areas bathroom facilities may be shared. Dining options are often more limited than elsewhere in Asia and where this is the case meals are included in the cost of the tour. Travel may involve some rough and/or mountainous roads and vehicles, while best available, will vary according to local conditions.

For adventurous travellers seeking new frontiers, our exploratory journeys offer the opportunity to experience these untouched lands the Travel Indochina way. Travelling with our experienced local guides and Western tour leaders will ensure you really get amongst the local culture, as we explore the unexpected together.
