This 16-day journey is ideal for the return visitor to China, or those looking for something a little different: you will experience the highlights, as well as some of the Middle Kingdom's most treasured religious relics. From Beijing, we venture into Shanxi Province, where we visit the beautiful Yungang Grottoes and Hanging Monastery, as well as the walled city of Pingyao. Marvel at the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, see the renowned Shaolin monks perform Kung Fu and wonder at the World-Heritage listed Longmen Grottoes. Your journey ends in Shanghai, one of Asia's most exciting cities.

Trip grading: MODERATE to ADVENTUROUS Suitable for travellers with an average level of fitness, independent mobility; a keen sense of adventure is important. Prepare for some long road journeys, 1 overnight train, 2 day trains and climbing stairs

What's included: 14 nights hotel accommodation and 1 overnight train (soft sleeper 4-berth shared cabin), flights as specified, all road transport by air-conditioned vehicles, all sightseeing as specified (excluding entrance fees), Western tour leader (7 or more travellers) and local English-speaking guides throughout, arrival and departure transfers, breakfast daily and 1 lunch.
